Women at the Table: the Importance of Female Representation at High-level Events in the Agri-food Sector and Beyond

22 December 2023 - The gender disparity at COP28's World Climate Action Summit raised concerns as only 15 out of 140 scheduled world leaders were women. Despite some improvement with less than 40% female representation in party delegations, questions arise about equal representation and inclusivity in climate policy decision-making. The gender gap at COP28 may impact the agriculture and food sectors, highlighted during its Dubai edition, a milestone for agri-food. December's agri-food events, including Food2030 and EU Agri-Food Days, presented a positive picture with gender-balanced panels, emphasizing European-level commitment to balanced representation. The importance of women's representation in the agri-food sector is crucial for empowerment, gender equality, and addressing industry challenges
